Family Friendly Pride Month Events in San Antonio

Pride Month events are not for everyone and we get that. As a community founded on connection, information, and respect for all parenting types we are sharing this information as a resource for the families who do care to participate and attend. We believe in the diversity of thought, inclusion, respect and the powerful influence you have as a mother or parent. We support all kids, all moms, and all families – and we invite you to do the same.

What is Pride Month?

From the Library of Congress: Pride Month started as an organized, single event offshoot from the “Reminder Day Pickets” held annually (1965-1969) on July 4 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1970 Reminder Day was reimagined as an annual day of remembrance of the Stonewall Uprising and called the Christopher Street Liberation Day with events held in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Pride Month grew to include the entire month of June and to events that include education, advocacy, awareness, and sometimes just plain fun.

“...And each of these 5,000 homosexuals had a new feeling of pride and self-confidence, for that was one of the main purposes of the event-to commemorate, to demonstrate, but also to raise the consciences of participating homosexuals-to develop courage, and feelings of dignity and self-worth.” – Foster Gunnison Jr., May 1971

Pride Month in San Antonio

From the San Antonio Express News: In 1982, advocates with the San Antonio Gay Alliance announced San Antonio’s first Pride event, which focused on visibility in the LGBTQ+ community June 22 at the Bonham Exchange. The 1998 San Antonio Pride celebration was the first big LGBTQ+ parade through downtown San Antonio.

The whole month of June is full of Pride Events, some more suited to an 18+ crowd and many that are family friendly. While we strive to provide accurate information, it is up to you to determine which events are the best fit for you and your family and to confirm event details.
