It’s Patio Szn: Guide to Kid-Friendly Patios in San Antonio

Spring is my favorite time of year in San Antonio. The bluebonnets are out, it’s not 1000 degrees yet, and best of all, the patios are poppin’. With the decrease in COVID cases and rise in vaccinated adults, my family is just about ready to start hitting up some patios. If you’ve been looking for a great place to get some food and drinks while letting the kiddos run around, check out the list below! Let us know what we missed!

Dog and Pony

Dog and Pony is located off of Main Street in Boerne, and has a huge patio, as well as basketball courts and play areas for kids.

Mi Casa Tamale

Mi Casa is my personal favorite on this list, and not just because it’s right down the road from my house! It has great food and margaritas, as well as a HUGE play area for kiddos.

The Friendly Spot

Located in Southtown, The Friendly Spot has 250+ beers on tap, food, and play areas for dogs and kids.

Hops and Hounds

Hops and Hounds is in Northeast San Antonio, and has a huge dog park (hence the “hounds” part).

Alamo BBQ

Alamo BBQ is located by the Pearl, which is chock full of great patios. It boasts live music, a big playground, and great barbecue.

Bigz Burger’s

Big’z has two locations: one off of 151 and one by 1604 and Blanco. It has a large astroturf area as well as playgrounds, plus great burgers.

La Gloria

La Gloria has two locations as well: one at the Pearl and one by I-10 and the Dominion. Known for their amazing Mexican food and margaritas, they also have great patios for kids and adults.

La Hacienda de los Barrios

La Hacienda is off of Redland Road and is known for their puffy tacos. They also have a great patio with live music.

The Cove

Besides the great patio, The Cove is known for their local, sustainable, and organic food. It is a fantastic healthy option for parents looking to feed their kids nutritious food!

The Point Park and Eats

The Point is a great food truck park. It has a bar, coffee shop, food trucks, and playground options for kids.

Beto’s

Beto’s calls themselves “alt-Mex” food. They are located off of Broadway and also have a vast food and drink menu.

Two Bros BBQ

Two Bros is off of West Avenue and is known for their great play yard.

Random

Random is a food truck park near Boerne Lake. It has a huge trampoline and play area, as well as a bar and large menu.

I can’t wait to hit some of these up this spring! What patios did we miss?

Kristin
Kristin moved to San Antonio from Baltimore in 2006. Although she had a brief 2 year stay in Fort Worth, the margaritas, breakfast tacos and the kind souls of our residents drew her back for good. She's a third grade teacher and group fitness instructor, and single mom to Molly (2009), Sadie (2011), Daisy (dog) and Charlie (cat). When she has free time, she's either training for a half marathon or on a patio somewhere with a Titos and soda.
