At Heintz Preschool Literacy Camp, we cater to every child’s creative and academic needs while fostering a love for learning through both indoor and outdoor play. Each week, we highlight a classic children’s book through activities and projects appropriate for each age group. Summer Arts and Culture Sessions with The Circle School
This spring our community has celebrated the transition of our unique school culture and curriculum into an effective distance learning program. This summer, we will build on that success by offering a variety of programs in a distance format for children ages 7-14. Engaging weekly opportunities have been designed for children to learn and explore together with skilled teacher support.
Our long-running summer tradition of Arts and Culture Sessions such as Dr. Seuss Central, Messy Science, DIY Fashion, and Southern Cooking will still be hands-on in this new format! Prior to the start of the session, students will be provided with prepared materials and a home supplies list to be paired with daily virtual instructions, connections and demonstrations. We offer a full menu of choices to inspire every aspiring chef, artist, poet, or engineer to follow their individual passions and interests.
Summer programs at The Circle School will run from June – July. You are welcome to sign up for one session or for the whole summer!

Camp sessions are held at Camp La Jita, a beautiful 236-acre camp situated along the Sabinal River near Utopia. Girls will develop independence while under the supervision of specially trained camp staff who help girls plan activities to create a unique camp experience.
Keep your kid’s body, mind, and soul, active this summer, with creative adventures in Music, Voice, Acting, and Art. Combine multiple classes and create your custom experience from 9 am to 4 pm. Students can learn proper singing techniques, how to harmonize while singing with others, experience the engaging magic of Drum Circles, experiment with a variety of musical instruments including piano and guitar, explore various art styles and techniques, write a song, learn the power of storytelling, create and act in their very own film, and more. Basel Sarweh began playing the cello at the age of 7. He comes from a long line of musicians tracing its roots to ancient Armenia. His father, John, is a world-renowned zither player in the Middle-Eastern tradition.
As a youth, he often performed both classical and middle-eastern music in the Windsor/Detroit area. At 13,
Basel also received the highest honors in the Ontario Regional Music Competition. He was honored to perform with legendary violinist Gordon Staples in Detroit, MI, in a string quartet accompanied by his wife, Beatriz and son, Gregory.
At 18, Basel won a full scholarship in Cello Performance at Wayne State University in Detroit. His teacher was Richard Piippo, a student of Pierre Fournier. Other teachers included Mario DiFiore, John Thurman, Italo Babini, and Hans-Jorgen Jensen.
Following this, he studied with the late Eleanor Schoenfeld at USC in Los Angeles and benefited from the wealth of knowledge of many of its professors, including Master Classes with world famous cellist, Lynn Harrell.
Mr. Sarweh has since performed chamber music concerts nationally with friend and noted pianist, Thomas Hrynkiw and appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras.
In 2007, he relocated to San Antonio, Texas. He has been principal cellist with the Dearborn Symphony and Symphony of the Hills, associate principal of Mid-Texas Symphony and Laredo Philharmonic, as well as appearances with the Corpus Christi Symphony and other regional orchestras in South Central Texas.
As a teacher, Basel has had experience in a wide variety of educational settings including guest lectures and classes at the Ithaca Cello Institute, Congress of Strings, YOSA, and was a faculty member of Hill country Youth Orchestras, Schreiner University, and the University of the incarnate Word.
