Brian LancasterBrian Lancaster

Nominated by his wife, Heather

Heather’s Words: If I could only use one word to describe my Super Dad nominee it would be PRESENT. Brian lives in the moment with his children more than any other person I have ever met. He has an amazing gift to connect with each of our three children, on different levels, at every stage in their life. He does this individually, and amazingly with all three in tow as well! I am in awe of him, and if being completely honest, a little jealous!

Brian leads a sales team for SC Johnson and does travel some. That being said, he never chooses work over his family. At 5 o’clock everyday he stops whatever he is doing to spend time with the kids. If he still has work to do, he waits until the kids are in bed. With every promotion I tell him how excited I am for him and he always replies with, “I’m excited for our family”.

One of my favorite qualities is the way Brian is able to challenge and teach Bella, Thomas, Graham and well, lots of other kids on our street. They all seem to flock to “Mr. Brian”. He creates crazy, fun games and obstacle courses out of anything and everything he finds in our garage. Our front yard is the meeting place for all the kids to see what their next challenge is. In all of this he is teaching our children about community, teamwork, competition, creativity and fun.

Brian also sees a great value in teaching the kids about giving back to the community they live in. He serves on the Board of the Brighton Center, coaches baseball, and volunteers at our elementary school.

He shows the kids what an amazing husband looks like. He encourages, supports and loves me with everything he has. He is quick to notice when I’m having a bad day and he will scoop up the kids and take them to the park. He sees the importance of me having some time to myself so I am better equipped to give to our children.

Because of the father Brian is, it makes me want to be a better Mom, a better wife, a better person. He may not be able to fly or have other super-human strengths, but he is a SUPER Dad, everyday of the year.

Ryan DavidRyan David

Nominated by his wife, Katy

Katy’s Words: Ryan is an extraordinary father.  He and I both have demanding full-time jobs, and our household would not be able to function without his practical contributions.  Many women are have husbands who “help with the kids,” but as I describe it, Ryan “cares for them seamlessly.” He anticipates and meets their needs as well and as often as I do and willingly taps in at a moment’s notice.

But really, that’s just logistics.  What’s most remarkable about Ryan is his stewardship of our children’s personal and emotional development.  He and I have very different personalities.  Now that our daughter has reached school age, we find ourselves helping her navigate the social dynamics among her peers.  While I could be described charitably as “direct” and “unemotional,” Ryan is sensitive and thoughful.  He helps our children approach situations in ways that would not occur to me, and that I could not teach.  His lessons are a perfect compliment to my own.

My favorite thing to love about Ryan is his devotion to meaningful hobbies and “extra” pursuits. The man does not let grass grow under him. When he’s not killing it at his job, caring for the little guys, or keeping up the house and yard, he is fixing up a car, learning a new skill or–most remarkably–researching and writing for his own golf equipment review website.  He insists on making time for these activities, which I respect and admire.  It’s all too easy to lose one’s self in the grind of work and parenting.  I know my children will learn many lessons from their dad, but one of the most valuable will be to never stop developing as an individual.

Jason PastranoJason Pastrano

Nominated by his children, Olivia & Adam

Olivia & Adam’s Words (with mom’s help): Our Daddy is our SUPER DAD! You see, mommy has another baby in her tummy and she is really tired lately. Daddy wakes up with us at night, early in the morning, plays with us, makes and feeds us breakfast so mommy can sleep a little later, and then heads off to his super busy job. He works hard all day and he loves what he does. Everyone we meet that works for daddy tells us how wonderful he is, and how he always talks about us! We like to be talked about! Daddy comes home from work and takes us to the park or to play with bubbles in the backyard every single day while mommy makes us dinner. He gives us a bath and sings the best bath time songs! At bed time, when we say our prayers I thank Jesus for giving us the best daddy in the world. We think Jesus gave him super dad powers because mommy is always happy, and he makes us super duper happy. We know how much daddy loves us and how hard he works for us. He may not be anything out of the ordinary to the every day eye, but in our house and with our family he is EXTRAORDINARY! Daddy loves Jesus, and he loves us. We know our family is strong because of our daddy and we want to give him a reay cool surprise! Pick our daddy! We love him so much, and he deserves a chance to be “pampered” like mommy is everyday!
