Alamo City’s Super Dad Finalists: Justin, Morgan, Cush, Brian T.

We started off the week yesterday by introducing you to our first four finalists in Alamo City’s Super Dad contest.  Today, we bring you four more inspiring San Antonio area dads. Don’t forget to come back on Friday when voting will open up to YOU!  We want our readers to help us determine who will receive the title of Alamo City’s Super Dad.

Voting will be open Friday, June 13– Sunday, June 15 at noon.

Our winner will be announced on the blog on Monday, June 16!

Justin McElhannonJustin McElhannon

Nominated by his wife, Misty, and their oldest son, Bryce

Misty & Bryce’s Words:  (Misty) Justin is the definition of Super Dad. He has fought for his life for over 3 years now. He is in and out of hospitals, doctors offices and treatment centers on a daily basis, but this does NOT keep him from being the best daddy in all the world. Justin has three sons Bryce (8) Brody (5) and Braxton (4). Over the past three years Justin has made it his ultimate goal to show these boys what it means to persevere and to find light in ALL situations. He is not able to be very active, but he will use every last ounce of his energy to sit in a chair and toss a football with the boys. His illness does not define him. He lives his life to glorify God and through that he is able to show these young men that there is MORE to life than they could ever imagine. He has never for a moment pitied himself. He gives hope and encouragement to strangers…but he has made the ultimate difference in the lives of his family that adores him.

(Bryce) My dad is such a great dad. He has been sick for a long time, but he always makes time for me and my brothers. He makes sure that he takes me to get candy and we talk about everything. I may not get to have my dad around as long as some kids, but I am really lucky that I have gotten to have my dad for eight whole years so far.

Morgan MatsonMorgan Matson

Nominated by his Mother-In-Law, Carol

Carol’s Words: Morgan is a Super Dad in the way he provides his boys with a positive role model and is involved in their family, faith and community.

He values family time and always emphasizes the importance of family dinner together.  He is a Boy Scout Leader and member of the  Watch DOGs at the boys’ school and visits frequently to share lunch with them. As a scout leader Morgan has helped his boys learn the importance of helping their community through volunteer scout projects.

Morgan also volunteers many hours of his time to community groups. As a board member of Boysville he has included his boys in activities that help children less fortunate than themselves and foster their sense of responsibility to help others. Recently he was nominated to compete in the Man of the Year campaign sponsored by the San Antonio LLS and he used this opportunity to raise their appreciation of the blessing of good health as well as personal responsibility to help where and when we are able. The family regularly attends church services at Concordia Lutheran church where Morgan has been a member or the Men’s Retreat group.

CushOBrienCush O’Brien

Nominated by his daughter, Erin Graham

Erin’s Words: My sweet Daddy has raised 5 girls and lived to tell the tale. He was a dentist in the Navy prior to setting up private practice in San Antonio in 1956. He was one of the first volunteer dentists for the boys (it was all boys at the time) at Boysville. He spent many years at the West Side Clinic (sponsored by the SA Dental Society) doing free dental work. He spent years volunteering in the YMCA Indian Princess organization. He was Big Chief of the San Antonio Area chapter when his youngest daughters were involved. He does his best to attend all sports, musical and academic events his children and 8 grandchildren are involved in. I cannot even touch on the many things that he has accomplished as a man, father and grandfather. He’s the best Daddy ever!

BrianTurnerBrian Turner

Nominated by his wife, Melissa

Melissa’s Words: Brian is a SUPER dad to his 23mo son. He’s a medically retired army veteran. Even though he has had many chronic injuries he never lets that affect him in front of his son. Our son has an infectious laugh and never cries with daddy. He wakes up calling “Daddy”. The whole reason for living is for his son. Brian will run around with capes, play silly music with pots and pans, and even becomes a horse that runs the house.
