Spring Break Staycation: San Antonio Hotels Your Kids Will Love

Spring Break is upon us. We’ve made it to mid-March, and although it seems like we just wrapped up Christmas break, here we are again, planning and plotting ways to keep our kids occupied (and entertained!) for a full week.

If you’re like me – a last-minute planner with a toddler and baby in tow – a cross-country vacation is likely out of the picture. The thought of packing up the kids for a week-long adventure seems daunting, impossible even – and although I love a good getaway, sometimes a staycation does the body, mind, and soul just as well.

Fortunately, in the Alamo City, you can play tourists year-round. Whether you’re looking for adventures along the San Antonio River Walk, thrills at amusement parks, or simply lounging poolside, our area hotels have tons of fun activities for families and children. So if you’re staying put this year for work reasons, family reasons, or budget reasons (hey, we’ve all been there – kids are expensive!), consider the following hotels for a fun-filled staycation.

Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa

9800 Hyatt Resort Dr. San Antonio, TX 78251

Lazy river floating and fireside s’mores, anyone? Yes, please! This dreamy Hill Country hotel is ideal for families with kids of all ages. From a 27-hole golf course to on-site restaurants, to a 5-acre water park, this resort has something for everyone. And while the kids play, Mom and Dad can spoil themselves with a spa day at the Wildflower Spa. The resort often runs special camps and activities during holiday weeks, so be sure to call ahead or check their calendar – think movies on the lawn, s’more making, and arts & crafts classes. Or, if you want to adventure off-site, SeaWorld San Antonio is just a five-minute drive away.

La Cantera Resort and Spa

16641 La Cantera Pkwy. San Antonio, TX 78256

Five pools and just a stone’s throw away from Six Flags Fiesta Texas! Kids will love the large, lively pools, casual dining options, and expanded Kids Club offerings. While parents enjoy the golf course, spa, or other adult offerings, the kids can participate in the resort’s immersive naturalist program, check out the arcade, or get a head’s start at nearby Six Flags. Tickets are available for purchase at the front desk, and free shuttle service is available. What’s more, there are tons of other kid-friendly attractions nearby – think iFly, Palladium IMAX, and Andretti Indoor Karting.

JW Marriott Hill Country Resort and Spa

23808 Resort Parkway, San Antonio, Texas 78261

Kids love the River Bluff Water Experience, a nine-acre water park featuring a 1,100-foot lazy river. And let’s be honest, adults love it, too! Nestled on nearly 600 acres of the gorgeous Texas Hill Country, you’ll forget you’re in San Antonio the second you step onto the property. With six restaurants on-site, including several near the popular water attractions, you won’t ever have to leave. But, if you do want to leave, families can explore nearby Natural Bridge Caverns or check out the firework show at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Little kids will especially love the Sand Beach Pool, and parents will love the spacious rooms, Lantana Spa services, and TPC golf course.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Landmark

5615 Landmark Pkwy., San Antonio Tx, 78249

This hotel is ideal for larger families; the rooms are super spacious with plenty of pull-out sofa options and the pool is brand-spanking new (complete with bar service and patio dining for the parents!). The location is great for family fun, too, as it’s just minutes from La Cantera, The Rim, iFly, and Top Golf. Breakfast is complimentary and offers a full spread of made-to-order everything.

Omni San Antonio Hotel at The Colonnade

9821 Colonnade Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78230

Conveniently located off I-10, the Omni is a great spot for families who want to explore downtown and the Northwest theme parks. This hotel sits right in the “middle” of all the action. Six Flags Fiesta Texas and The Rim are just up the road, and the Colonnade Shopping Center has loads of shops and restaurants, too. Kids will love the dual pools – indoor and outdoor – after a long day of exploring. Adults can even purchase tour and theme park tickets in advance at the front desk. Easy, peasy.

Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk

123 Losoya Street, San Antonio, TX 78205

This hotel overlooks the River Walk and the Alamo for the best of both worlds! Explore the traditional River Walk shops and dining options, or take a quick stroll down to the Pearl and let the kids explore the northern reach of the river. On-site, the hotel offers kid-friendly movie nights, scavenger hunt activities, and family-friendly discounts at the yummy hotel restaurant, Q Restaurant.

The Emily Morgan Hotel – A Doubletree by Hilton

705 E. Houston St., San Antonio, TX 78205

Warm cookies greet you at the check-in desk. And, you’re just steps away from the Alamo. Let your family explore the historic hotel – which is supposedly haunted by spirits of Texas’ past – and then step outside to stroll the River Walk or nearby Rivercenter Mall (think Legoland, Dave & Busters, and the IMAX theater).

The Historic Menger Hotel

204 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205

History comes to life at the oldest continuously-operating hotel west of the Mississippi, the Menger Hotel. Families will love the spacious rooms and the central location. Located directly in Alamo Plaza, you’re just steps away from the Alamo. Take a self-guided tour then hit the River Walk shops and restaurants for a full day of fun!

A native Laredoan and San Antonian by choice, Kimberly loves all things sunshine and South Texas.
