11 Ways to Maximize the Season

As much as forecasters try to predict the weather, you never know how the rest of winter will play out the San Antonio area. It could be gloomy and cold or sunny and mild. Or it can be both in the same day. We can’t control the weather, but we can make the most out of this season. Here are 11 ways to maximize the rest of the wintertime:
  1. Wear every cute scarf, sweater, boots, and jacket you own as much as possible.
  2. Enjoy a day in your pajamas, sipping hot cocoa, cooking soup, and have a movie marathon with the family because the rest of the year it is iced coffee for you.
  3. Even if westerns aren’t not your thing, embrace your inner cowgirl. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo takes place February 7–24. Many local schools, business, and organizations embrace the Rodeo and encourage you to wear your best western gear during the month.
  4. Texas doesn’t mess around when it comes to mold or pollen, and “hay fever” season is right around the corner. Start restocking you allergy medicines.
  5. If you want to get your kids into gardening, plot out your game plan now. According to Rainbow Gardens, “There is an optimal eight-week planting period from the last week in February through mid-April.” Or if you prefer not to DYI, register for the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s Children’s Vegetable Garden Program.
  6. Restock food in your bird feeders to train birds that your house will be the hot mealtime spot for them once spring officially hits.
  7. As moms, we are the family travel agents and event schedulers. Begin planning Spring Break vacations, summer camps, and other adventures before they fill up.
  8. Embark on The Purge—not the horror movie, but your house. Don’t wait for spring to clean. Slowly start going through outgrown clothes and household clutter now so you can feel less pressure to do it all in March.
  9. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of kids’ movies coming soon, including The Lego Movie 2Captain Marvel, How to Train Your Dragon 3, Dumbo, Shazam!, Wonder Park, Aladdin, Pokémon Detective Pikachu, The Lion King, and more. And yes, they will all have exclusive must-buy toys and well-crafted marketing plans targeted to make your kids beg, “Pleeeeeeeaaaaase?” on every trip to Target.
  10. Taxes are not fun, but they still have to be done. Monday, April 15, will be here before you know it. Kick off the process of collecting all key documents and save them somewhere safe.
  11. Get ready to embrace flip flop and shorts season, which right around the corner. Note to self: book pedicure and finally make it to the gym consistently.

Happy winter, everyone!
