Alamo City Moms TASTE: “Mumosas” for a Mother’s Day Brunch with Friends

I adore my husband and daughter, I really do, and they do a great job of making me feel like an awesome mom year-round. But you know who celebrates motherhood the BEST? My mom friends. So this year for Mother’s Day, I’m inviting a few over after school dropoff for a morning of our favorite brunch foods, fellowship, and a little bubbly—because they’re special and I want to celebrate them. Local blogger and party stylist Kristel of Stylin’ Brunette lent us her eye—and her amazing collection of tabletop pieces—for the setup. You’ll never guess where the blue and white plates are from!

It’s amazing how a table can be transformed with florals. Having fresh, bright flowers in the house and as the centerpiece of a table just makes it feel like a party! It’s loquat season in San Antonio, and a few small branches of the lovely yellow-orange fruit are a fun addition to a floral centerpiece. Believe it or not, all of these flowers were sourced from H-E-B and Trader Joe’s!

Another fun trick? Grab a plain cake and top with a couple macarons (both from H-E-B’s bakery department) and some flowers—or loquats, in this case—for a special dessert. Pro tip: this also works well for last-minute birthdays or baby showers!

For a breakfast-y brunch that can be made somewhat ahead, I’m serving: mini dutch babies with strawberry lavender freezer jam, cut up fruit (and I’m totally cheating and using the pre-cut fruit from HEB, because #weekday), and bacon. We’ll have coffee, tea, and “mumosas,” bubbly hibiscus syrup-infused versions of traditional mimosas. The individual bottles of prosecco are lovely for a brunch like this because you don’t need to open a full bottle that will go flat on a school morning (because #life), and it’s fun to have an individual bottle at your spot. Every good party has a fun takeaway, so each friend will head home with a little something to remind her that we love her, she has a village, and she’s a great mom.

Take a morning to celebrate your mom tribe friends this year—with tacos, donuts, or just coffee and conversation—because as amazing as our partners and kids are, no one celebrates mamas like another mama!

“Mumosa”

Ingredients:

Directions:

Pour 2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon of hibiscus syrup (or more, depending on how sweet you’d like it)  into a champagne glass or coupe. Top with cold prosecco, sparking wine, or champagne. Garnish if you’re feeling super fancy. Herbs like rosemary and basil are particularly nice with the hibiscus.
