The Gathering Place is a revolutionary new elementary school in San Antonio. The idea was born from Asia Klekowicz and Ryan York’s belief that kids, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods, don’t get a complete education. We spent 10 years teaching, leading, and seeing glimmers of what could be when teachers are trusted, kids are loved for who they are, and administrators don’t measure students by just test scores — but we never saw those pieces fully come together.
Inspired by what could be and disappointed by what was, we quit our jobs, pooled our savings, and traveled the country searching for schools where creativity flourished and every student and teacher was valued. On our journey, we found ourselves in San Antonio, fell in love with the people, and decided never to leave.
We have seen and learned from the best– but we have yet to find what we know can be. So we’ve decided to build it. We have created a new school. A school we wish was around when we were kids, a school we wished existed when we were teachers, a school that all children deserve.

SAISD is as diverse and historically rich as the city whose name it shares. As San Antonio’s founding school district, SAISD neighborhood schools have served the heart of the Alamo City for more than 100 years. Today, SAISD serves about 47,000 students across more than 90 schools in our culturally proud, urban community.
We offer a wide variety of programs, including dual-language, career exploration and college-preparation. Along with traditional school models, we also offer academies comprising non-traditional grade ranges such as PK-8.
True to our roots, SAISD continues to pave the way in San Antonio with the city’s only public Montessori school, single-gender campuses, and K-12 International Baccalaureate framework. Additionally, the District has grown 5 P-TECH programs in just a few years.
Outside of the traditional classroom, the spirit of SAISD can be found in programs and activities from extensive athletics to fine arts – including a mariachi curriculum that was pioneered in our District before being modeled across the nation.
From forward-thinking academic and extracurricular programs at our neighborhood schools to a growing list of specialized schools, SAISD students can customize their own educational experience and find what truly drives them. Every student has a journey, and SAISD is supporting that path wherever it may lead for each of its students.

The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District is a fast-growth district with a small-town atmosphere. SCUCISD is located on the northeast side of San Antonio within a 73-square mile area that includes Bexar and Guadalupe counties.
As more and more people discover the high quality of life and education available for residents of the SCUCISD, the district continues to grow.
During the last 15 years, the enrollment in the district has more than doubled. The district now serves over 15,900 students living in the Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City, Selma, Converse, St. Hedwig and occasionally Randolph Air Force Base areas.
Though the district’s name has eventually evolved into perhaps the longest school district name in Texas, its roots date back to the early 1900s when the district was named the Schertz School District. During the mid-1930s, the Schertz and Cibolo districts became one. On April 24, 1961, the school district officially became an “Independent School District.” Universal City was added to the name in 1967.
The district is currently home to 8 Elementary Schools, 3 Intermediate Schools, 2 Junior High Schools and 3 High Schools.
The district is proud to be amongst a very few in the area to hold a charter for an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program. The IB program is a two-year advanced studies program that is housed at Clemens High School.
In addition to the students’ successes, SCUCISD continues to be one of the highest-paying school districts in the state and maintains an employee retention rate that other districts envy.
Central Administrative Offices for the district are located at the William Malish Administration Bldg, 1060 Elbel Road, Schertz TX.
Regular board meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Central Administration Office.
The Board of Trustees include:
– Board President – Gerald “Jerry” Perkins
– Board Vice President – Ed Finley
– Board Secretary – Letticia Sever
– Board Assistant Secretary – Belinda Evans

The Montessori School of San Antonio (MSSA) builds on the philosophical and psychological principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. At MSSA we recognize that development comes through the student’s own activity and that the faculty’s task is to carefully guide that activity within an environment specially prepared according to the student’s particular stage of development.
Montessori at MSSA is an education that is both nurturing and rigorous, respecting each student’s unique pace and style of learning while continually encouraging each child to reach his/her maximum potential. It is an education that addresses the critical integration of knowledge, skills, understanding, and moral action.
