Brooks Academies Virtual Instruction program is open to all students who qualify. There is no cost for this program. Students must qualify and register at one of the Brooks Campuses to participate. The district provides laptops and all curriculum needed. All classes are taught by Texas-Certified teachers in real-time, and students may participate in their home campus sports, clubs, and events. The Gathering Place is a revolutionary new elementary school in San Antonio. The idea was born from Asia Klekowicz and Ryan York’s belief that kids, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods, don’t get a complete education. Basel Sarweh began playing the cello at the age of 7. He comes from a long line of musicians tracing its roots to ancient Armenia. His father, John, is a world-renowned zither player in the Middle-Eastern tradition.
As a youth, he often performed both classical and middle-eastern music in the Windsor/Detroit area. At 13,
Basel also received the highest honors in the Ontario Regional Music Competition. He was honored to perform with legendary violinist Gordon Staples in Detroit, MI, in a string quartet accompanied by his wife, Beatriz and son, Gregory.
At 18, Basel won a full scholarship in Cello Performance at Wayne State University in Detroit. His teacher was Richard Piippo, a student of Pierre Fournier. Other teachers included Mario DiFiore, John Thurman, Italo Babini, and Hans-Jorgen Jensen.
Following this, he studied with the late Eleanor Schoenfeld at USC in Los Angeles and benefited from the wealth of knowledge of many of its professors, including Master Classes with world famous cellist, Lynn Harrell.
Mr. Sarweh has since performed chamber music concerts nationally with friend and noted pianist, Thomas Hrynkiw and appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras.
In 2007, he relocated to San Antonio, Texas. He has been principal cellist with the Dearborn Symphony and Symphony of the Hills, associate principal of Mid-Texas Symphony and Laredo Philharmonic, as well as appearances with the Corpus Christi Symphony and other regional orchestras in South Central Texas.
As a teacher, Basel has had experience in a wide variety of educational settings including guest lectures and classes at the Ithaca Cello Institute, Congress of Strings, YOSA, and was a faculty member of Hill country Youth Orchestras, Schreiner University, and the University of the incarnate Word.

Camp registration is processed online. Registration will open Wednesday, March 1st at 8AM, and will remain open until classes are filled. There will be a non-refundable $35 registration fee per student. This year the registration fee includes a camp t-shirt. All camps are based on the incoming grade for the 2023-2024 school year.
Tuition
Camp tuition is refundable for cancellations made before May 15. In the event that a camp does not make sufficient enrollment, SGES will work to place the camper into an acceptable alternative camp. If placement is not possible, an account credit will be issued. We are unable to prorate or discount tuition due to camper absence.
Morning Care/ Lunch Bunch / Late Care
Morning care will be available from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM. Campers should be dropped off in the GYM each morning and will be taken to their camps at 9:00 AM. Lunch Bunch is offered each day from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Campers need to bring their own lunch and drink each day. Late care will be offered from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. All late care students will need a snack, this will not be provided by St. George. Late care students will be on the playground until 5:30 PM. Any student not picked up by then will be signed out in the Leadership Center (LC). Any student not picked up by 5:30 PM will incur late charges of $1 per minute.
Camp Sessions
Morning camp sessions are from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Afternoon sessions are from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Parents will drop campers off and pick them up at the GYM. Campers should be dropped off no earlier than 10 minutes prior to session start time.
Security
St. George will provide standard campus security during the camp day, which includes all gates being locked at all time with access only granted through the Leadership Center until late care. We will have an SAPD officer on campus throughout the day.
