Pick Your Own Strawberries this Year at these Farms Near San Antonio

Looking for more fun outdoor activities that the whole family can enjoy — before it inevitably gets too hot in Texas? Strawberry picking is one of the things on our bucket list for my kids to enjoy. Luckily, there are several farms offering pick-your-own strawberries, all located not far from San Antonio. These sweet, flavorful berries are typically ripe and ready to pick from March through May each year. Did you know, there’s even a festival dedicated to the fruit? The Poteet Strawberry Festival takes place on 12-14th April 2024. Keep reading for more!

Before you head out to one of these farms, here are a few tips to keep in mind to help make your trip more enjoyable.

Pick Your Own Strawberries

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes: April is typically rainy, and as a result strawberry fields may be either muddy or dusty. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy.
  • Bring sunscreen and water: Texas weather is very unpredictable and can turn from complete cloud coverage to brutal sun in a matter of a couple of hours. Protect yourself by using plenty of sunscreen, and stay hydrated by making sure everyone has plenty of water.
  • Check with the Farm for harvest updates: a lot of farms frequently update the status of their field and fruit on their website. Is the field especially muddy? Are the berries ripe? When is the best time to visit? Some of them may even be temporarily closed if there have been storms or heavy rain recently. Be sure to check with the farm – if you can’t see anything online, call – to avoid any disappointment.

Now – let’s explore some of the finest spots for strawberry picking!
