I Don’t Do 4th-Grade Math: How GoPeer Tutoring Saved My Sanity

This post is brought to you by GoPeer.

There is so much that we get right as parents. We work so hard to stay organized, *try* to help our kids with their school work, all the while balancing the tasks of keeping them alive, fed, and happy. But, gosh, these past few years have thrown a wrench in our best-laid plans for our kids.

COVID, homeschool, school testing, oh MY! I don’t know about y’all, but some days I just don’t have the energy to keep up with all the changes.

COVID has, without a doubt, made it more challenging for our kiddos to stay ahead of the curve. And on the days when there just aren’t enough hours, GoPeer Tutoring has come in to save us.

What is GoPeer?

GoPeer is a national company that provides a 1:1 online tutoring experience for any student in ANY grade level. From needing a little extra help understanding a new concept to wanting to get ahead, GoPeer can meet your students’ needs and then some. Gone are the days of searching for someone—anyone—to help your frustrated child. Within 5–30 minutes after signing up, your child can be in front of a tutor helping them specifically with their needs.

Fun Fact?

GoPeer hires fewer than 5% of applicants, which means your student gets tutored from an elite pool of 10,000 top-tier university students, well-versed in 150+ subjects. So no matter the concern, GoPeer tutors can address it.

The icing on the cake?

It doesn’t have to involve YOU anymore! In fact, you can set up sessions for a time that works for your family’s schedule and go cook dinner in the next room. With two other children at home needing my attention, this was a HUGE selling point for me. It’s not that I don’t feel passionately about 4th-grade math, it’s just… you know…  those other kids I have.

Several of our team members decided to try it out with our own students (of different educational levels and ages) and we ALL received the same result—kids who truly felt seen, heard, and HELPED.

“It was so easy to schedule a tutoring session with GoPeer! Within minutes of registering, I had several potential tutors reach out to help. We were able to book a session almost immediately and our tutor was communicative, approachable, and helpful.”

The best (and most relieving) part of the entire experience was the fact that there were no tears shed and no arguing with parents who “don’t understand” (insert my eye roll here). After the first session, we were all hooked!

“Every evening is a fight to get (our second grader) to focus and get (homework done). Our GoPeer tutor got him excited about completing his homework and made it a fun task instead of something we all dread!”

Another contributor’s second-grader has been struggling a bit with two-digit subtraction with regrouping, so that’s what was focused on in the session. “The tutor, Corey, pulled up some virtual base ten blocks and used those and a digital ‘chalkboard’ during the session. The visual explanation was great, and Corey was very patient and kind.”

So here’s the 4-1-1 on how it works!

  1. SIGN UP. You have the option of signing up as the student or the parent and can easily find a tutor based on need (struggling with a subject, looking to get ahead, prepping for a test, etc.).
  1. GET SPECIFIC HELP. After answering a few more questions about your student’s specific needs, you are matched with a tutor and are given the opportunity to have a 15-minute introduction for free.
  1. SCHEDULE AS NEEDED. You log in at your scheduled time with video chat and the ability to download documents and talk directly to your tutor the entire session. If you need more help, you can schedule with the same tutor for continuity. I love that about the service!

To be honest, one of the biggest issues I had with tutoring is the cost. With kids so behind (thanks, COVID), those tutoring bills can easily add up these days. The amazing thing about GoPeer is that with a membership, we have access to pay-as-you-go tutoring at $20 per month. It’s completely worth it, hands down.
