Morgan’s… MORE Than Just the Wonderland

We absolutely love heading to Morgan’s Wonderland with our children. If you have not yet visited this ultra-inclusive park, then you are definitely missing out. The entire park is wheelchair friendly, which also happens to make absolutely everything in the park very friendly to toddlers and young children too! So, moms of little ones, all of this applies to you, too!

Morgan’s Wonderland: A Park Like No Other

Located in San Antonio, Morgan’s Wonderland is the world’s first theme park designed with special needs individuals in mind. From the moment you step through the gates, you can feel the difference. The new rides at the park are amazing! Our favorite of the newer attractions were the Wonder Bikes.  These fun-filled flying bikes allow you to control the height of your 2-person hang glider with either foot- or hand-pedals. Both my 4-year old and 7-year old loved them!

On our recent visit, we were lucky enough to be there for the unveiling of some of their newest attractions. This is when I learned that Morgan’s is so much more than just the amusement park.

Morgan’s Multi-Assistance Center (MAC): Comprehensive Support Under One Roof

Just a stone’s throw away from the wonderland of play is Morgan’s Multi-Assistance Center, affectionately known as the MAC. This innovative facility provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with special needs and their families. The MAC is designed to be a one-stop resource, offering everything from medical and therapeutic services to social and educational support.

I had the unique oppotunity to tour the facility as a prospective partner and off-site provider through my tutoring and dyslexia therapy company, LD Expert. I could not have been more impressed.  Towards the end of our tour, I found myself asking, “honestly, why would anyone NOT want to be a part of this? It’s amazing!”

Families can become members of the MAC as long as they have someone in their family with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities or with a history or claim of disability that live in Texas. Once a family has a membership, MAC does not limit its assistance to only the individual with special needs — they will provide services to anyone in need within the family unit. So what exactly does this mean? Perhaps it is easier to explain what it does not mean in order to answer that. Your child is NOT required to have a visible disability in order to qualify.  If they have a learning disability that significantly limits a major life activity (such as reading), you can become members at no cost to you. *Prices for services will vary depending on the provider, but many take insurance, medicare, and medicaid.

Some specific disabilities that would qualify for membership include (but are not limited to):

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Children with ASD often require specialized therapies, including speech and occupational therapy, which the MAC provides.
  • Down Syndrome: Individuals with Down Syndrome benefit from the MAC’s multidisciplinary approach, which includes medical care, physical therapy, and educational support.
  • Cerebral Palsy: The MAC offers physical therapy, assistive technology, and other services to help individuals with cerebral palsy improve mobility and independence.
  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Comprehensive support for learning, development, and social integration is available for children with various intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Sensory Processing Disorders: The MAC’s sensory-friendly environments and specialized therapies cater to children with sensory processing issues.
  • Physical Disabilities: From spinal cord injuries to muscular dystrophy, the MAC provides resources and therapies tailored to children with a range of physical disabilities.
  • Behavioral and Emotional Disorders: The MAC offers behavioral therapy and support for children with ADHD, anxiety, and other emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Genetic Disorders: Children with rare genetic disorders can access a broad spectrum of medical, therapeutic, and social services.
  • Specific Learning Disabilities: Children with specific learning disabilities may require and greatly benefit from specialized instructional models and therapies.  The MAC has both onsite and offsite providers to help your child reach their full academic potential.

The MAC also offers invaluable resources for parents. At the MAC you will find pediatricians, dental services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, support groups, educational workshops, legal services, advocacy, job training, and MORE. Whatever your family’s need is, they are there to help connect you with the services you need — all under one roof. Most importantly, it’s a community where you can find understanding, support, and the tools to help your entire family thrive.

Morgan’s Salon: Beauty and Confidence for All

The final piece of the MAC that I just had to touch on is Morgan’s Salon, a place where every individual can feel pampered and confident. Traditional salons can be overwhelming and not always accommodating for children with special needs. Morgan’s Salon, however, is designed to cater to everyone, with stylists trained to work with individuals who have a variety of needs at super affordable prices.

The salon offers a calm and sensory-friendly environment, ensuring that your child’s experience is as stress-free as possible. From adaptive hair-washing stations to patient and understanding stylists, every visit to Morgan’s Salon is a positive and affirming experience. It’s more than just a haircut; it’s a place where your child can feel seen, valued, and beautiful.

Why Wait? Call or Visit today!

If you have been feeling like your child needs extra support, and you weren’t sure how to provide it to them, I highly recommend reaching out to the MAC as soon as possible. Their incredibly knowledgeable staff will help guide you through the process, matching you with a case manager who will take the time to get to know your entire family and ensure they are meeting each and every need.
