CPS Energy Continues to Connect SA Community During Covid-19

This post is brought to you by our partner CPS Energy.

Proving to be a true community leader, CPS Energy is once again leading the way on making sure the families of San Antonio are being taken care of during this pandemic. While many areas of our lives are stressed and unknown, CPS Energy wants San Antonio to know they strive to be a constant and available source of aid.

CPS Energy continues to be at the forefront of community response to the pandemic. On November 16th, CPS Energy’s Board of Trustees held a public input session with comments by Paula Gold-Williams, CPS Energy President & CEO. During this session, important information was shared on how CPS Energy is responding to the needs of their customers and how families can continue to rely on their services.

Gold-Williams spent much of the time reassuring community members of their focus on keeping rates low and making sure families continue to have the resources they need through this tumultuous time.

Keeping our families safe and secure is of the highest priority to CPS Energy. As a result, the Flexible PathSM was created to ensure cleaner energy for our homes and lives. Why does this matter to families and what does this mean for you? It gives customers confidence that their power will be reliable and affordable while CPS Energy transitions from some aging power plants to more renewable energy options. Additional clean, renewable energy is on the horizon, and services that support energy efficiency are being provided to the customer now. For more information on the Flexible PathSM, head to https://cpsenergy.com/flexiblepath.

How has Covid-19 affected CPS Energy rates? The short answer is…it hasn’t! Even throughout the last 10 months, no rates have been increased (and that hasn’t changed in the last 6 years!). During the public input session, Gold-Williams also noted that there hasn’t been a single disconnect since March 2020—and will hold true to that for the entire rest of the year. This is incredible news for those struggling to make ends meet during this pandemic and proves the commitment CPS Energy has to its customers.

Does CPS Energy adhere to Covid-19 safety protocol? With 3,100 employees, CPS Energy knows how important it is to follow safety protocol and update their guidelines often. They do not enter homes unless completely necessary, strictly adhere to social distancing with customers, and do everything they can to help you in your environment, while still being careful to reduce the spread of Covid-19 while providing you quality service.

What if you are struggling to pay your bill? If you need a little extra time, that’s okay. Not only does CPS Energy understand, they are willing to delay your payment. They are proud of their commitment to collaboration over conflict. When on a payment plan, late fees are also waived. In addition, 2020 introduced the need for an outbound call program. CPS Energy Advisors have individually called more than 37,000 customers since March of 2020 to inquire about a need for program/assistance information. They will continue to do so as a service to the families they serve in our community.

If you are currently experiencing financial difficulties, call them at 210-353-2222 or online at www.cps.energy/assistance.

What can you do to help stay informed? CPS Energy is a city-owned, public utility and therefore has worked tirelessly to keep the lines of communication open for their customers. As a result, they have created many different opportunities for families to gather information and provide feedback.

  • Take surveys, provide feedback, and attend board meetings when possible! CPS Energy wants to hear from you and strives for better ways to serve our community and your family.
  • People First Community Fairs are a great way to learn about your options, the newest technology being provided to best assist your family’s needs, and any rebate programs being offered. The best part is you can attend from your own home, since these events are now being held virtually due to Covid-19.
  • Write to CPS Energy at [email protected] or mail to CPS Energy ATTN: PUBLIC INPUT, 500 McCullough, San Antonio, Texas 78215

What can I expect at the People First Community Fairs?

  • Talk to local community leaders and CPS Energy representatives about energy saving opportunities.
  • Learn about rebates and assistance programs.
  • Hear about the latest news and initiatives from CPS Energy.

What’s next for CPS Energy? The idea of a Rate Advisory Committee (RAC) is being discussed. This would allow members of the community to meet and make recommendations on CPS Energy rate structures. Stay tuned for more information regarding this opportunity.
