We’re Growing! Introducing Five New ACMB Contributors

We are so excited to introduce five new members of the Alamo City Moms Blog contributing team!  Each mom brings a unique perspective to motherhood as well as a passion for raising children in San Antonio.  We asked these lovely ladies to answer a few questions as a way of getting to know them.

Amanda

Screen shot 2013-10-22 at 10.21.20 PMA little about me: I’m momma to 18 month old Petite and wife to my college sweetheart, Francois. I am an on hiatus-teacher (I only have one student, these days!) and a professional photographer. I love entertaining, crafting, DIYing and making messes that involve glitter. My favorite color is sparkle and I’ve never met a macaron I didn’t love.

Favorite thing to do in San Antonio: Petite and I love going to the zoo and can hang out by the elephants for hours!

Are you a Longhorn? Aggie?  Other? My husband and I met at Texas A&M (FTACO ’05 Whoop!)and Saturday mornings during football season are dedicated to College Game Day – not cartoons!

Best Place to Eat in San Antonio: Feast on South Alamo – I’ve only ever been for brunch but it’s my favorite place to eat my favorite meal! [hr]

Amy

AmyA little about me: I’m originally a Yankee from the East Coast.  (Long Island, NY and Richmond, Virginia to be specific.)  I’ve been active duty Air Force for 13 years, and married to my prior-Army husband for 10 years in May.  We met while both stationed here in San Antonio (from 2002 – 2008).  We recently returned to San Antonio for a second tour, but now with our two boys, ages 4 and a half, and 3.  Our oldest is on the Autism Spectrum.  We love living in San Antonio, and discovering all the different family friendly activities it has to offer.

Favorite thing to do in San Antonio: Discovering new parks and trail walking.

Most-loved Spurs player: I have tons of respect for the big three, but I also think Danny Green shows a lot of promise!

Best place to eat in San Antonio: Our kids favorite right now is China Sea-Chinese Buffet.  (I can appreciate not having to entertain my kids while waiting for our food to arrive!) We love breakfast, so I can never resist a good potato, egg, and cheese breakfast taco; but my kids love Magnolia Pancake Haus. Inga

inga_headshot_highresA little about me: I was born in California, and my family moved around when I was growing up. We moved to Texas when I was in high school, and it’s been home ever since. I love San Antonio, especially the areas around downtown. I went to law school right after college, but I feel like what I am doing with my blog, San Antonio Charter Moms, is more fulfilling. It helps me find the best opportunities for my kids, “F.T.” (age 6) and “G.N.” (age 3), and I get to help other parents learn about their education options, too.  My husband and I both went to Trinity University, but we didn’t know each other when we were students. Instead, we met several years later when my husband gave a guest lecture at the Computer Science department.

Favorite thing to do in San Antonio: Libraries. We go several times a week. Besides checking out books, the kids like to pick out DVDs and play with the educational software on the computers. There are story times, craft projects, art exhibits, special events— and most of it is free.

Are you a Longhorn? Aggie? Other? Trinity Tiger. My mom, my sister, and I were all students at Trinity at the same time. And, my mom and I went to law school together.

Most-loved Spurs player: “The Admiral”, David Robinson, because of his achievements with the Spurs and also his commitment to education: he serves on the San Antonio board of IDEA Public Schools.

Best place to eat in San Antonio: Without kids: Bohanan’s, for steaks and date night ambience.  With kids: Pizza Italia, for crispy-crust pizza and laid back family time. [hr]

Kelly

photo-35A little about me: I’m a full-time working mom in a never-a-dull-moment blended family of six. My husband, Ryan, and I are both lawyers, and my life was changed forever when we married in 2003 and I became stepmom to his 4½ year old twin boys, Eric and Grant. Ryan and I wasted no time in expanding our family. Eleanor (now almost 10) was born a year later, and Sadie (age 7) followed 2½ years later. The boys are now freshmen in high school! We have two rescue dogs, Rex and Ozzie, and the longest living carnival prize goldfish remaining in captivity, Tiburon.

Favorite thing to do in San Antonio: Ryan and I are passionate about living in San Antonio and feel like it has changed a lot (and for the better!) during the time that we have lived here. My very favorite thing to do in San Antonio with my family is going to Fiesta events together in the spring. We don’t miss the Fiesta Arts Fair, the Texas Cavaliers River Parade, and the Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade.

Are you a Longhorn? Aggie? Other? I’m a Longhorn (I graduated from UT-Austin in 1995), and I went to St. Mary’s for law school, which is what brought me to San Antonio.

Most-loved Spurs player: I gotta say Tim Duncan. Hook ‘em Horns and Go Spurs Go!

Best place to eat in San Antonio: Ryan and I really enjoy trying different local restaurants both with and without our kids. We recently took our whole crew to Paesano’s in Lincoln Heights for dinner after the girls’ choir concert, and it was really special. I love that our kids are now old enough that we can have a civilized, celebratory meal at a more upscale place, but that won’t keep us from hitting our regular tried-and-true neighborhood family joints, like Longhorn Cafe, Thai House, and La Fonda! Taylor

Headshot 002A little about me: I am a native San Antonian and an editor-turned-stay-at-home mom to my four-year-old spitfire daughter, Harper, who was born eight weeks early as a result of my bout with preeclampsia. My husband Jeff & I will celebrate our eighth anniversary in December. I love the theater, Girls Nights Out, wine, writing, traveling, and meeting other moms, and I’m super excited to be part of the ACMB team!

Favorite thing to do in San Antonio: The simple ones like nature walks, picnics, tea parties, Brackenridge Eagle train rides, and of course swimming in the summer.

Are you a Longhorn?  Aggie?  Other? I am a devoted Texas Longhorn who, ironically, is married to the world’s most hardcore Oklahoma Sooner fan. I like to think of us as college football’s version of Romeo & Juliet—but with a much happier ending.

Most-loved Spurs playerSelecting just one favorite Spur seems contradictory, because I think the Spurs’ synergy as a team is what separates them from the rest and makes them truly great. However, I can’t wait to see what Kawhi Leonard will bring to the table this season, and of course I’ll always have a soft spot for Manuuuuuu!

Best place to eat in San Antonio: When we have Harper in tow, my favorite place to go out to eat is Alamo Cafe due to my slight queso addiction. On Date Night, it’s a straight-up tie between Fleming’s Steakhouse and Little Italy off of West Ave.
