Viva Fiesta (from Home)!

Despite the Official Fiesta being postponed until this fall, my biological clock absolutely insists it’s time to hang my Fiesta wreath and papel picado, to shower my family in confetti from cascarones, and to do my best to bring some Viva! into our home this spring.

Thankfully, I’m not alone and friends across the city are figuring out how to Fiesta at Home. Here’s how you can Viva Fiesta from your home:

Decorate

Print, cut and color these papel picado designs made especially for you to hang in your windows. (Don’t worry about cutting out the insides like traditional papel picado – we’ll give you a pass this time!)

Watch

Tune in to KSAT12 for the Cavaliers River Parade on Monday, April 20, the Battle of Flowers Parade on Friday, April 24 from 2pm – 5pm and the Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade from 2019 on Saturday, April 25 from 7pm – 10pm.

KSAT12 is also turning this into a week-long event for viewers – a virtual event that will include Virtual Watch Parties using the ‘choose your own adventure’ app, Fiesta Bingo that
viewers can play at home and by partnering with several local restaurants who will be offering “Fiesta Food Packs” to bring classic favorites into your home!

On Saturday, April 24 at 6:30 pm, KSAT invites you to put on your finest Fiesta outfit, grab glow sticks, a carton of cascarones, or a gordita, and walk out your front door to take a selfie showing your Fiesta spirit. Remember social distancing so no mixing with your neighbors. Upload your picture to KSAT.com to appear on KSAT’s website and tag @alamocitymoms if you share on social so we can share, too!

Create

Design and create your own barge for a virtual parade with the San Antonio Riverwalk Association. Submissions are welcome from individuals, nonprofits, and businesses. This campy, silly parade was thought up to make you laugh, so don’t take yourself, or this event too seriously!

The Virtual River Walk Parade will air on the River Walk’s Facebook page on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 pm. Float submissions are due Monday, April 20 at noon.

Steps for Submitting Your Float to the River Walk’s Facebook Page:

1. Create and decorate a water-worthy vessel.

2. Film a 15-second horizontal (landscape) clip (no sound) of your entry float in water (tub, sink, pool, birdbath, etc.) from approximately 1 foot away. Be sure to shoot the video in landscape mode and keep your vessel at eye-level.

3. Go to Facebook, Like our page @TheSanAntonioRiverWalkOfficial, and submit your video.

Post your video clip no later than Monday, April 20, at noon to their Facebook page with the following text:

I am entering my float in San Antonio’s VIRTUAL River Walk Parade. Not all floats will make it in the parade. Like my post to help get my float noticed.

Then list your Name, City and State, Age (if under 18)

The top entries will be edited together as a video and shown on Thursday, April 30th at 7 PM on the River Walk’s Facebook page.

The best entry will receive a family four-pack of tickets to the 40th annual Ford Holiday River Parade on Friday, November 27, 2020.

The winner will be announced at the end of the video.
