My Princess & Me :: Supporting St. PJ’s Children’s Home

Do you have a princess in your life?   Is there a slight obsession with all things sparkly, pink, and dresses that twirl? Based on my co-contributor Jessica’s princess blog post, you are not alone. You may have costume bin overload going on in your playroom. You may or may not have pushed someone over in the local Toys R Us trying to get your hands on that last Elsa dress. If your creativity to find new ways to let that little princess truly express her royal self has become frozen (pun intended), then have no fear.  I am here to help!

Not only can I help you, but you can help local children in need at the St. Peter- St. Joseph Children’s Home. It’s a win-win situation, complete with a fairytale ending!

My Princess and Me- Supporting St. PJ's

My 8 year old stepdaughter, Ellie, and I are members of the 2014 Royal Court for St. PJ’s. This means we are committed to raising at least $10,000 in a 3 month period. The Royal Court consists of several mother-daughter teams all having made the same noble commitment. The team that raises the most money will be crowned Queen & Princess at the My Princess & Me event.

Here are the details:

stpjsWho?  St. Peter-St. Joseph’s Children’s Home is a local Catholic children’s home servicing children (ages birth to 17) in need. St. PJ’s has been a vital part of the San Antonio community for over 130 years! Over 1500 children were served in 2013. Ellie and I are part of the Royal Court, and we are also proudly representing Alamo City Moms Blog.

What? My Princess & Me is an afternoon of all things pink and princess…it really can’t get any better for your little lady-in-waiting! Your princess should wear her finest dress to the event, where she will receive a professional hairstyle & makeup application. All sprinkled with a little glitter and fairy dust and, of course, photo ops.

When? Sunday November 2, 2014   1:00 – 4:00 pm

Where? JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

Why?  First, you get to enjoy a really enchanted afternoon with your little princess. She will be thrilled. Second, you are helping out a truly great cause to help other children in need whose life may not have always been so enchanted. You will be thrilled. Last, you are helping me and Ellie raise money and awareness for a local organization that has been in our community for over 100 years. We will be thrilled.

How?   You can buy tickets to the My Princess & Me event through our personal fundraising website so we can gain credit towards our $10,000 goal. Tickets are $30 each. Monetary donations are also welcome and greatly appreciated!

Note: Bridget will have a table set up at the ACMB First Birthday Bash where you can come chat with her, find out more about St. PJ’s and the Princess Event, and hopefully make a donation or purchase your Princess tickets from her right then and there. Come by Bridget’s table and you could go home with an Elsa dress for your little princess!  St. PJ’s is also the featured non-profit for the event and attendees can earn additional giveaway tickets by bringing items needed.

I do want to take the opportunity to share a little why I so enthusiastically agreed to serve on this year’s Royal Court. As a Catholic, I tend to stick to my upbringing of maintaining humility and discretion in my service to others or acts of goodwill. This campaign goes against my nature to not only publicly do such goodwill, but also to openly solicit others to join me. It’s usually a very private affair of the heart or of the family. But I felt very compelled to take this on for no other reason than to demonstrate to our children that acts of service can take on all shapes and forms, and that we have an absolute duty and obligation (for us it is grounded in our faith) to do for others what we can.   I had a long talk with Ellie about how, as Catholics and as human beings, we are called to help those in need. We are fortunate and blessed to have the material things we have, and more importantly blessed to have the family structure and unit we have. Not everyone in the world has either of those things. As a child of divorce, while she has her own cross to bear, she also now has more people in her life on a daily basis loving her, caring for her, and making sure she wants for nothing. She knows this. She gets it – at age 8. She did not hesitate to put aside her own princess aversion and tell me definitively that yes, she wanted to help. I must say that this was a proud parenting moment.
