12 San Antonio Boy’s Birthday Party Venue Ideas

The Best Places for Boy Birthday Parties

I loved having a house full of guests for all my children’s birthdays for the first few years of their lives but when my son turned four, I was ready to get out and start exploring the other venue options that didn’t include me spending a week getting my house ready for 75 people to come over and destroy. Here is a list of some of my personal favorites where I have loved throwing my son’s birthday parties at, along with some others where we have attended or want to soon!

1. Aerial Gymnastics

I really can’t think of a better place to have a young boy’s birthday party. Aerial Gymnastics, similar to Alamo Gymnastics is the perfect place, especially if you are in need of an indoor venue in the winter or hot summer months. The Ariel location, off Vance Jackson, had a perfect room for the kids to sit and eat and the party hosts were great with the kids. This was one of my very favorite birthday parties because I had our close family friend dress up as Spiderman and come surprise all the kids.

2. Rainbow Event Center (Leon Springs, TX)

This is a beautiful, outdoor venue just 8 miles outside of 1604 on I-10 towards Boerne. It is covered with beautiful oak trees and is a kids paradise filled with bounce houses, a large basketball sports courts, multiple Rainbow Play Systems, spring-free trampolines and putt putt golf. After attending a couple of parties in the summer and fall, I decided to take a chance and have Carter’s December birthday here and although it ended up being cold and rainy, the kids had a blast!

3. Main Event

When Main Event came to town a couple of years ago, I knew it would be perfect to try out for Carter’s 6th birthday! And I was right, he would have go back for the rest of his birthday parties if I let him. It’s kind of like a clean kid’s version of Dave and Buster’s. Besides a huge room of video games, they have a full bowling alley, Laser Tag and Gravity Ropes (a ropes course high above it all.) Since the kids were younger, around 6 years old, I decided to focus the party on the bowling and game room which was perfect. There were some benefits to having it on a Sunday like doubling the game money and it was a lot less crowded. All in all, it was a boy’s dream location and a party that Carter and his friends loved.

4. K-1 Speed Racing

Late 2013, a new car racing place came to town, so I had my husband go by on his own and check it out. I wanted to see if it was something that a 7-year-old could do. I don’t know if my husband or son was more excited to actually try it out. I definitely think 7 years old is the youngest for this party venue, as the strict height requirement for the junior course is 48″. This is a boys party venue of dreams for most ages 7-77 and it didn’t disappoint. Since it was much more of an expensive venue, we allowed my son to choose just a couple of friends to join him on this special experience and made an afternoon out of it, going to eat and pay putt-putt afterwards!

5. Monster Mini-Golf

In our house we love Monster Golf, the glow in the dark music pumping indoor venue is one of our favorite Friday night hotspots and it would be an excellent indoor boys party venue.

6. Pump It Up

There is a reason Pump it Up is one of the most popular indoor venues in town, the last few years! The kids absolutely LOVE it and they have putting on a great birthday party down to a fine science. With 2 locations in San Antonio, this is one of the best birthday venues for 4 – 6-year-old boys, in my opinion, if you are looking to wear them out somewhere else besides your house!

7. Inflatable Wonderland

Although I haven’t been there myself, I have been hearing good things about this place which is filled with bounce houses galore!

8. Laser Quest

This is a venue I am thinking of having my son’s 8th birthday party at the end of this year. I loved Laser Quest as a kid and Carter’s first experiences with it (at Main Event) have him itching for more. Laser Quest has two locations in San Antonio and from what I have heard has birthday parties down to a fine science.

9. Thin Air Extreme Air Sports (Trampolines)

I have not been to this brand new venue in town, but the pictures make look like a boy’s utopia. It looks to be covered in trampolines with balls for dodgeball, basketball and foam pits. This looks like a hot new place that would knock the socks off any young boy in town.

10.  Amazing Jump

What looks to be similar in concept to Thin Air but another option for active, younger children is Amazing Jump.

11. Games 2 You

Although, this isn’t technically a “venue” and we have never used this mobile entertainment truck for one of our parties, we have attended parties where this truck pulled right outside their house and it was an incredible hit. My friends have been able to keep the party outside in their front yard and I would consider having it pull into my neighborhood’s community center parking lot if there was a bathroom available, to be able to keep the flurry of boys out of my house. Since we don’t play many video games in our house, this truck would be a special treat for my kids and something they would be super excited about having.

12. Flip’z Trampoline Park

Flip’z Trampoline Park  just opened at PicaPica Plaza on the south side of San Antonio. Inga and her kids have jumped at Flip’z for open play, and it looks like a great party venue. A party reservation gets you a stretch of picnic table, or you can reserve one of the private rooms for an extra charge. Flip’z has thoughtful touches like a Piñata Pit, where tissue paper figures go to meet their doom, and a Kid’z Zone for jumpers ages seven and younger.

Megan is a serious bargain shopper, Boxer loving, research junkie kinda gal. Chances are she can tell you the best item to buy from everything from a baby monitor to a dishwasher. She claims to be the blogger on the team that will never win an award for being an eloquent writer. In fact, she prides herself in graduating from Texas A&M University (’02) without ever having to write a paper! San Antonio born and raised, Megan learned early in life to always learn from others and she enjoys sharing helpful tips she encounters while navigating this ‘kid chapter’ of life. The three little people that gave her the title of mom and thus the inspiration to get out and explore our city, from a child’s perspective, are Carter (2006), Addie (2008) and Delaney (2013). She’ll admit, the third one has been WAY more work than they ever expected but they wouldn’t have it any other way. Her motto now is “What ever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger,” right?! Megan has a serious to-do list addiction which one day may need intervention; for now, this aliment allows her to accomplish the many balls she has the energy to juggle. She may be an outlier to some but loves working outside the home and is grateful for her working-mom-friendly company and career in sales, which gives her the best of both worlds. Although, Megan will be the first to tell you, without her ridiculously amazing husband and hands-on-dad, Blake, she wouldn’t be able to do any of it. Like most women, half the time she feels like she has it all together and the other part, she’s treading water trying not to drown. But as of now, she wouldn’t change a thing.

  1. Ok, I must admit that I was pretty disappointed with Bricks for Kidz when we went to a 10 year old party there this week. There was one teen girl running the entire place, and…how do I say it nicely…communication was not her strength. For the first 30 min, the kids were able to sign the birthday boys free T-shirt and then play freely in 3 tubs of Legos. The teen worker was behind closed doors preparing goodie bags so the moms just chatted and wondered what the plan was. After about 30-45 min, the kids snacked. Mom provided snacks and the teen got juice boxes for everyone. They’re big on not letting the kids eat near the Legos…totally understandable. Next, the kids got to choose a small acrylic box that contained a kit for them to assemble. Each kit contained a small Lego motor so each set had moving parts. The boys could choose from a power drill or a jack hammer and the girls got a spin art kit. The kids had fun doing these. The older kids could build the kits independently, but the younger ones (under 8) needed lots of help. The kids got to play with their creations for a little while but then had to turn it all back in. They had cake and played some more with the free play Legos before opening gifts. The kids got to build one mini figure to take home along with their goodie (candy) bag. The kids seemed to enjoy it, but it was way too unstructured for this teacher/planner/control freak mom! :).

    • Thank you Julie for your honest feedback for many moms here in San Antonio. Hopefully they will get and openly take good feedback and it will get better. It seems like its a great idea.

  2. Great post, Megan! We are headed to 2 ten year old boys’ birthday parties in the next week. One is at “Bricks for Kidz” on Stone Oak Parkway. We’ve never been but are looking forward to this Lego/Minecraft theme party. The other party is at Malibu Grand Prix…where I used to go as a teen! I’m anxious to see what updates (if any) have been made to this place. The boys (age 10) will have 4 hours of unlimited putt putt golf, bumper boats and race cars.
I’ll reply back and let y’all know my thoughts after these gigs!

    • Yes Julie!!! Please do follow up with us on them and thanks for always being my go-to mom mentor on everything both BOYS and GIRLS!
