Things to Do With Babies and Toddlers in San Antonio

Babies are so cute when they are little, but sometimes moms want to do more. We want to get out of the house, include them, and enjoy watching them discover the world. But what are the best activities for little ones? I see this question often in many online mom groups, so I decided to compile a list of activities to do with babies and toddlers in the Alamo City.

Story Times

Twiglet Storytime

The Twig Book Shop hosts storytime in the greenspace outside of Cured at the Pearl. All ages are welcome in the story time weekly Fridays at 10:30 A.M. and during the summer adding a 9:30 A.M. slot.

Barnes and Nobles

Each location offers different times and days of the week, check with the location nearest you.

Mommy and Me Classes

Little Gym

As a new mom, this is one of the first places I took my son, and I could tell that he genuinely enjoyed it. The parent-child classes start at four months, and children advance to different levels until they are three years old and can attend independently without a parent present.

Gymboree

Experienced staff offers a wide range of play-based classes for infants to experience and explore with mom and dad at various locations throughout San Antonio. The Play & Learn 1 level is designed for babies 0-6 months, while the Baby Lab classes are for babies 0-10 months. There are additional classes for babies and toddlers.

Aqua-Tots Swim School

Learning to swim at an early age is fun for even small babies. Parent & tot classes start at four months of age with a focus on water adjustment to safe skills and practices. There are several locations in the San Antonio area.

Kindermusik

Music classes are a great way to learn early language skills. The Foundations class is for newborns to babies that are 18 months old. These classes offer a sensory-rich yet caring and gentle environment where infants can explore and react to new sounds, sensations, and objects.

Music Together

Another option for music classes in San Antonio, this program offers Family Classes that include Mixed-Age, Babies, Generations, and Rhythm Kids classes for children, parents, and caregivers.

Splash Pads

Splash pads around San Antonio are a great way to wear out toddlers during the summer. Check out Beat the Heat: The Best Splash Pads and Water Fun in San Antonio, written by one of my peers.

San Antonio Favorites

Local parks

From Landa Park in New Braunfels to Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair, there are so many parks to enjoy all over San Antonio. Check out A Walk in the Park: The Best Parks in San Antonio as a guide for all available options.

The San Antonio Zoo

My baby was eight months old when we made our first visit to the San Antonio Zoo, and we have not stopped going since then. Children enjoy watching the animals, walking around the different exhibits, and riding the iconic train.

The Doseum

A local spot that is fun for all ages, this San Antonio children’s museum has different areas for all to enjoy. Little Town is especially popular for younger children to pretend play. Additionally, this area is secure with a fence and keeps little ones contained. The outside water play areas are also a favorite for toddlers during summer.

McKenna Children’s Museum

I (Aidee) previously wrote an article about this children’s museum because it is one of my favorite places to go with my preschooler and toddler. There are a lot of areas for children to explore and learn.

SeaWorld

There is a ton to do at this local theme parkThere are many different shows offered throughout the day and into the evening. The area with games and the splash pad have made this park one of our favorites. I enjoy it as much as my kids do. Read A Mom’s Guide to SeaWorld San Antonio written by one of my ACM peers, to get insider tips.

Maui Maui Kids Play Island

The Stone Oak location of this indoor play place opened in 2019 and even though they closed because of the pandemic, they are opening under a new name! There is an area for toddlers 1 to 4 years old. One of the perks of this spot is that the playground is big enough for adults to go into the games with their children. (I must confess that I have also had a lot of fun going down the slides!)

Arrows Active Play Park

Located in Boerne, this indoor playground is perfect for kids ages 6 months – 12 years old.  Their café serves gourmet sandwiches, fresh baked goods and specialty coffee.

Fitness Groups

These are not specific things to do with babies and toddlers but allow you to tote along your kids as you get some extra steps.

Fit4Mom

Owned and operated by local moms, Fit4Mom offers fitness classes for moms at every activity level and stage of motherhood. Classes start with pregnancy workouts and continue through postpartum and beyond. Moms who are part of this group say that they work out with their kids but also have formed friendships with other moms who attend the classes, too.

Hike It Baby

It is described as a fun group that promotes getting parents and children outdoors. Babies are often worn or pushed in strollers. Many of the hikes are walks in the park and the leaders often choose parks with a playground so parents and kids can hang out afterward.
