2014: Hit the Ground Running – Part 1 {Sponsored}

NBpostgraphic2014 is in full swing and with a new year comes resolutions.  I know, I know.  You make them every year – stop swearing, no sugar, start exercising, keep the house clean.  Some how, March 1 rolls around and you find yourself sitting on the couch ten pounds heavier, shoveling chocolate chip cookies in your mouth, surrounded by clutter and cussing under your breath.

This year, Alamo City Moms Blog is teaming up with New Balance San Antonio to help you with tips on at least one of your new year’s resolutions – exercise.  And more specifically, we’re talking about getting out and hitting the pavement.

As a mom, exercise can be one of the hardest things to find time for but with our help, we hope to make this a part of your daily routine.  Taking to the streets is not only something you can do ANYWHERE but you can also take your kids along, ensuring that you won’t miss a chance to get your blood pumping and your heart rate going.  In this three-part series, we’ll show you step by step tips on how to get out and get walking, jogging or running.  But first, we’ll start with the basics: gear.

Exercise apparel is one of the most underestimated investments one can make.  Not only can the right gear make you feel better about yourself as you start exercising but it can also prevent pain and injuries.

The first step is literally that: step into a local store like New Balance San Antonio.  Before you dig through your closet and uncover your running shoes from your pre-baby days, I urge you…no beg you, to please start with a fresh pair.  Shoes and the impact they can make on your feet are highly underrated.  You need to start with making sure you have shoes that not only fit your foot size but also fit how you walk, jog or run.  New Balance can assess your stride and gate in store to ensure you have the right shoe to fit your feet and running/walking pattern.  This will prevent injuries and keep you on the path to getting in shape.the-difference-shoe

Now that your feet are taken care of, there’s also the matter of your chest.  As a long-time runner that has always struggled with finding the right sports bra, I am beyond ecstatic about New Balance’s newest personalized sports bra program, Psyche.  Did you know that three out of four women wear the wrong size bra, including sports bras?  With New Balance’s Psyche program, their trained, female, professional staff will assist you with finding the best bra to fit your chest and your workout.  And let’s face it mommas, we’ve all experienced the joys of gravity in the chest department that motherhood tends to bring along – we could all use as much help keeping the girls perky as long as possible!

Now with clothing, I know it’s easy to go into your closet and throw on that old college t-shirt and a pair of Soffe windshorts circa 1996, but your body will thank you for moisture-wicking clothing.  With our winter weather we’ve been having these last few weeks and then the summer extremes we’ll face in a few short months, dressing for the weather becomes all that much more important.  Clothing can play a major role in temperature regulation and New Balance San Antonio has a great variety to choose from.

Next week, we’ll continue our series as we explore how to get started with your exercising but don’t forget to mark your calendars for our 2014: Hit the Ground Running event on January 25 at 9am at New Balance Quarry Village.  We’ll have fresh smoothies, healthy treats, Psyche Bra Fitting, shoe fitting and shopping.  Then, we’ll hit the ground ourselves for a fun run/walk through the neighborhoods of Alamo Heights and strollers and kids are welcome.  Registration is required so make sure to secure your spot!
