Grace Place Alzheimers Activity Centers – A Resource You Need to Know About

This post was written in partnership with Meals on Wheels San Antonio/ Grace Place Alzheimers Activity Centers.

Grace Place is hosting an Open House on January 25: “Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers, their loved ones, and the community are welcome to visit one of San Antonio’s only non-profit Alzheimer’s-specific adult day activity centers.” Participation is free but an RSVP is requested.

For most of us, the time will come when we might not only be taking care of our children but also find ourselves the caretakers of our parents. The circumstances may be different, and the reasons varied, but knowing what community resources are available is a key part of the support network we all need to be able caretakers for our loved ones of all ages. If you care for a loved one with Alzheimer’s in San Antonio you need to know about the treasure in our own backyard – Grace Place Alzheimer’s Activity Center. Grace Place offers day time activities for adults living with dementia and Alzheimer’s and the opportunity for caregivers to work, run errands, etc knowing their loved ones are in a safe and caring environment.

Grace Place offers daily routine, meals, activities – including physical – and fellowship for people who have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimers. To learn more about what Grace Place offers you can visit the Nacogdoches location on January 25 for an open house and listen to or watch the video below.

In addition to daily respite opportunities for caregivers, Grace place also offers ongoing support for caregivers and their families in the form of support groups and a deep well of knowledge and information they’re willing to share at any time. Caring for the caregivers, and reminding them to take care of themselves, is an important part of the services Grace Place develops and shares with the greater San Antonio community. in this video, the staff offers some tips that make holidays (or other special occasions where a routine or schedule might be disrupted) a little easier on the whole family.

One of the most common conversations the staff at Grace Place has with potential clients and caregivers is when a family is trying to determine if a loved one is the right fit and/or is exhibiting signs of Alzheimer’s or Dementia. All clients at Grace Place must have an Alzheimers/dementia diagnosis from a doctor to qualify for the daytime respite services. If you’re not sure what to look for or where to start, the staff and the larger community of Grace Place families are always willing to share resources and their own stories with new clients and their families. Join us for a conversation with a Grace Place caregiver and hear about the journey she’s taken with the center and her mother including how she knew it was time to get support and their journey through her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

If you are interested in learning more about Grace Place and the wonderful resources they offer to not only their clients but to San Antonio as a whole, visit their website, call, or stop by for a few hours of support during an open house or group meeting.
