The New Home Improvement Trend for 2021… Air Purification

This post is brought to you by Shafer Services Plus.

Air purification…like you need one more thing to clean. You’re busy: kids, school, sports, socially-distanced birthdays, your own work, your side hustle…it’s a lot. At the same time, we know that life has changed dramatically over the past year. We want to find some sort of new “normal” and have fun (yes, please!), but we want to do so in a smart and safe way. That’s why air purification is THE new home improvement trend for 2021.

“Since the start of the pandemic, sales for air purification systems have increased more than 1,000% nationally as people strive to make their homes and businesses as safe as possible,” says Chase Anderson, President and CEO of Shafer Services Plus. “It’s become the new standard for how we can safely interact with one another indoors.”

Why the new trend? The CDC and WHO recommend air purifiers for reducing the spread of COVID-19 when used in conjunction with other safety measures such as wearing masks and hand sanitizing. Plus, it’s one of the most cost-efficient and easiest additions that can be made.

Businesses around town are also installing air purification systems to keep patrons safe. The Witte Museum just equipped their historic Twohig House and the H-E-B Body Adventure Powered by University Health System with systems shown to reduce 99.4% of COVID-19 air particles within 30 minutes of use. Their goals were to optimize safety as well as patrons’ comfort in visiting.

Now, how does one clean air? Well, for you—it’s easy. Systems can be quickly installed in your existing HVAC unit(s); but the system you choose matters. Some, like iWave, clean air through ionization while others, like Fresh-Aire, use UV light and activated carbon. Huh? There’s actually some pretty cool science behind these processes.

When air passes over the iWave, ions produced by the device reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke, and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts.

Fresh-Aire’s method reads a bit like high school chemistry, the AP version. It utilizes germicidal UV-C light which interacts with titanium-dioxide-infused carbon cells. This neutralizes contaminants, leaving only water vapor and CO2. What you’re left with is clean, odor-free air throughout your home. Aside from reducing COVID-19 particles, these systems also decrease allergens and pet dander. (Take that, cedar!)

Both of these processes are natural and chemical free options. The Witte Museum opted to install both types of air purification systems to ensure optimal air quality at one of San Antonio’s most-beloved and most-visited museums.

The end goal—having a safer home so you can breathe easier. Want to know which system will work best for you? Shafer Service Plus has some helpful and easy-to-understand blogs. Plus, they can provide a no-cost assessment and recommendation for your home.
