Methodist Children’s Hospital: San Antonio’s Largest NICU

Alamo City Moms Blog is honored to partner with Methodist Children’s Hospital to share more about their Level IV NICU. This is a sponsored post.

In a perfect world, parents wouldn’t need to trouble themselves with learning more about local children’s hospitals and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). In the real world, however, there is a real possibility that you or someone you care about will need to use the services of a NICU.

A newborn may enter the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit when he or she is born premature, needs surgical intervention, had difficulties during delivery, or shows signs of distress during the first few days of life. Methodist Children’s Hospital is home to San Antonio’s largest NICU and the first in San Antonio to be certified as a Level IV NICU. They have the tools and expertise to treat children with complex medical conditions.

The Level IV NICU at Methodist Children’s Hospital offers the following features:

  • A neonatal team to attend to high-risk deliveries
  • 24/7 care with in-house neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, and lactation consultants
  • Genetic testing
  • A range of surgical procedures including repair of congenital heart defects, septal defect repairs, treatment of heart failure, pediatric thoracic support, and single ventricle repairs
  • Multiple modes of transport

The physician team at Methodist Children’s Hospital is made up of specialists. Patients are able to be treated by board-certified neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and pediatric radiologists, all under one roof.

The tiny NICU patients and their families are also provided care by specially trained registered nurses and, if needed, child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.

Methodist Children’s Hospital strives to provide the best care to all of the families it treats, and their Level IV NICU is a true gift to the newest San Antonio children. Learn more here: https://sahealth.com/service/neonatal-intensive-care.
