The Little Doers: Pre-School at The DoSeum

We have partnered with The DoSeum to bring relevant and important information to ACMB Readers through this sponsored post.

It’s no secret that San Antonio families love The DoSeum. In the first year that our new children’s museum has been open, it’s lived up to the hype of giving our city a rich environment in which they can play, explore, create, and imagine.

Last year, when I started looking at pre-school options for my child, I became aware that The DoSeum was working on a preschool program of their own. Enter The Little Doers.

From day 1, it was clear that this preschool program was different from any other being offered in San Antonio. The Little Doers offers a play-based and rich learning environment specifically for a child’s age and development. Learning and play at The Little Doers are so intertwined that one doesn’t stop when the other begins. The Little Doers program allows children to learn through appropriate play experiences that encourage active participation in learning, but all in the backdrop of The DoSeum’s 95,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space. What an amazing classroom!!!

The Little Doers teacher-to-student ratio exceeds standards. Children work in small and large groups and receive one-on-one attention during the school day. The DoSeum employs a full time educator and a part time Discovery Leader that are engaged with the children and truly care about the education each child receives while they are in their care.

The program balances between the recommendations of the NAEYC and the Texas Pre-K guidelines. The weekly themes have ranged from Movement where the kids created spin art, danced to music, watched balloon races, tested catapults, and played in Powerball Hall; to exploring different careers, like medicine where they charted the care of animals, used tweezers, syringes, and bandages, and culinary arts where they made birthday cakes with playdough, used the bakery in Little Town to name different types of bread, and made pizzas with art supplies and old pizza boxes; to celebrating Dr. Suess’s Birthday by searching the streams of The DoSeum for One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and Hopping on Pop by jumping on bubble wrap!
