Rise Inspire Academy provides a high quality education and a recovery-oriented student life for high school-aged youth. This innovative program, created by Rise Recovery and partner BRAINATION, is centered on high school students seeking sobriety from drugs and alcohol in a safe, understanding and positive academic environment. Rise Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to help teens, young adults and families overcome the effects of drugs and alcohol and partner with the community in education and prevention. Through support groups, recovery mentoring, peer coaching, prevention education and longstanding partnerships, Rise Recovery transforms the lives of thousands of individuals and families each year. BRAINATION is at the forefront of innovative facilitating and learning methods. They have redefined traditional approaches to education and are becoming a leader in world-class learning—helping students to become expert learners and leaders, encouraging students to lead principle-centered lives, and inspiring students to belong, be great, and find joy. A parent of one Rise Inspire Academy student expressed it best, “I was broken and desperate for a program like [this]. The Gathering Place is a revolutionary new elementary school in San Antonio. The idea was born from Asia Klekowicz and Ryan York’s belief that kids, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods, don’t get a complete education. We spent 10 years teaching, leading, and seeing glimmers of what could be when teachers are trusted, kids are loved for who they are, and administrators don’t measure students by just test scores — but we never saw those pieces fully come together.
Inspired by what could be and disappointed by what was, we quit our jobs, pooled our savings, and traveled the country searching for schools where creativity flourished and every student and teacher was valued. On our journey, we found ourselves in San Antonio, fell in love with the people, and decided never to leave.
We have seen and learned from the best– but we have yet to find what we know can be. So we’ve decided to build it. We have created a new school. A school we wish was around when we were kids, a school we wished existed when we were teachers, a school that all children deserve.

St. Thomas is a play based preschool serving the northern part of San Antonio. Our Reggio Emilia approach to learning allows all children to lead their curiosity to gain knowledge and understanding in the world around them.
Universal City United Methodist Preschool is a high quality, developmentally appropriate preschool located just 5 minutes from Randolph Air Force Base. The preschool serves children ages 3-5, while the Kids’ Day Out program serves children ages 12 months- 35 months. The preschool offers both full and half-day classes for 3 year-olds and pre-k children. We also offer a special “Gift of Time” class for children who may benefit from an extra year of early education before moving on to kindergarten. We are licensed by the state of Texas and accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children).
