The Gathering Place is a revolutionary new elementary school in San Antonio. The idea was born from Asia Klekowicz and Ryan York’s belief that kids, especially in historically underserved neighborhoods, don’t get a complete education. We spent 10 years teaching, leading, and seeing glimmers of what could be when teachers are trusted, kids are loved for who they are, and administrators don’t measure students by just test scores — but we never saw those pieces fully come together.
Inspired by what could be and disappointed by what was, we quit our jobs, pooled our savings, and traveled the country searching for schools where creativity flourished and every student and teacher was valued. On our journey, we found ourselves in San Antonio, fell in love with the people, and decided never to leave.
We have seen and learned from the best– but we have yet to find what we know can be. So we’ve decided to build it. We have created a new school. A school we wish was around when we were kids, a school we wished existed when we were teachers, a school that all children deserve.
Cardinal Montessori Academy is a family-owned Montessori school enhanced with a variety of enrichment activities to give your child a premier education experience. Our mission is simple: Create. Motivate. Ascend. We create a learning environment that provides children the opportunities to learn using concrete connections and hands-on experiences. We motivate our students to reach their full potential by respecting their individual capabilities without placing preconceived limits on them. As a result, our students ascend to greater heights academically, developmentally, and social-emotionally. Our goal is to provide the foundations for academic knowledge, along with life skills and an appreciation of the arts to grow and develop independent, self-confident, intelligent, well-rounded, productive members of society. The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District is a fast-growth district with a small-town atmosphere. SCUCISD is located on the northeast side of San Antonio within a 73-square mile area that includes Bexar and Guadalupe counties.
As more and more people discover the high quality of life and education available for residents of the SCUCISD, the district continues to grow.
During the last 15 years, the enrollment in the district has more than doubled. The district now serves over 15,900 students living in the Schertz, Cibolo, Universal City, Selma, Converse, St. Hedwig and occasionally Randolph Air Force Base areas.
Though the district’s name has eventually evolved into perhaps the longest school district name in Texas, its roots date back to the early 1900s when the district was named the Schertz School District. During the mid-1930s, the Schertz and Cibolo districts became one. On April 24, 1961, the school district officially became an “Independent School District.” Universal City was added to the name in 1967.
The district is currently home to 8 Elementary Schools, 3 Intermediate Schools, 2 Junior High Schools and 3 High Schools.
The district is proud to be amongst a very few in the area to hold a charter for an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program. The IB program is a two-year advanced studies program that is housed at Clemens High School.
In addition to the students’ successes, SCUCISD continues to be one of the highest-paying school districts in the state and maintains an employee retention rate that other districts envy.
Central Administrative Offices for the district are located at the William Malish Administration Bldg, 1060 Elbel Road, Schertz TX.
Regular board meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Central Administration Office.
The Board of Trustees include:
– Board President – Gerald “Jerry” Perkins
– Board Vice President – Ed Finley
– Board Secretary – Letticia Sever
– Board Assistant Secretary – Belinda Evans
– Board Trustees – Amy Thomas, Dan Swart and Robert Westbrook
Superintendent is Dr. Clark Ealy

Year-Round School
Converse Elementary is an Additional Days School Year Campus to better meet the needs of our students (PreK 3 -5th grade). The ultimate goal is to decrease the learning loss from long breaks, such as a traditional summer. The program has many benefits for our students, including having access to a full-time librarian and gifted and talented teacher, additional targeted interventions, and differentiated small group instruction.
Spanish Immersion
The Spanish Immersion Program is designed for English-speaking students who wish to become fluent in Spanish. Students enter the program in first grade. Spanish Immersion teachers follow a scope and sequence for Language Arts that is unique to meet the program’s goals. The scope and sequence for mathematics, science, and social studies match a traditional English-speaking classroom, with the only difference being Spanish as the language of instruction. The inherent nature of these programs creates an active parent-school partnership, which is essential for the success of the program and the student. This program can be found at two of our elementary campuses, Hartman Elementary and Wortham Oaks Elementary.
STEM Programs
Judson ISD is offering STEM programs for students in grades PreK- 12. We believe it is never too young to prepare students for life in an increasingly competitive and technological society by offering a unique opportunity for hands-on learning so that our students are ready to meet the challenges in the real world.
